A Florida man who allegedly stabbed his estranged girlfriend dozens of times was killed in a high-speed car crash while fleeing law enforcement.

Seminole County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a home in Chuluota around 12:45 a.m. Friday, where they found 40-year-old Kristin Stevens dead with what Sheriff Dennis Lemma described as "up to 70" stab wounds inflicted with a kitchen knife, WFLA reported.

According to a second victim who remains unidentified, the suspect, James Christopher Lindsey, broke into the home by shattering a window with a hammer. The man attempted to save Stevens, but was stabbed in the upper leg before Lindsey fled the scene.

Hours later, Lindsey was discovered dead at the scene of a car accident. Deputies said he lost control of his car while traveling over 100 mph and was ejected from the vehicle.

Lindsey and Stevens had a history of domestic violence incidents dating back to 2014, charged with domestic violence battery against Stevens as recently as Nov. 6.

"This is a heartbreaking and traumatic incident that will have a lasting impact on families and a community," Sheriff Lemma stated. "Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."
