Florida Man Charged With Attempted Murder In Miami Beach

Crime Scene Banner Picture.

A Florida man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder after opening fire on two men in Miami Beach whom he believed were Palestinians. The incident occurred when the suspect, a 27-year-old man, shot at the victims 17 times in what authorities described as an unprovoked attack.

According to an arrest report, the suspect, identified as Mordechai Brafman, stated that he saw the two men, whom he believed to be Palestinians, while driving his truck. He then proceeded to open fire on their car, mistakenly thinking that he had killed them. Fortunately, both men survived the attack, with one sustaining a gunshot wound to the shoulder and the other being grazed by a bullet.

Brafman is currently being held without bond on second-degree attempted murder charges at a county jail in Miami. He has also been ordered to stay away from the victims, who are an Israeli father and son that were vacationing in South Florida at the time of the incident.

The suspect's attorney has attributed the shooting to a severe mental health crisis experienced by Brafman, causing him to fear for his life. The attorney stated that Brafman's ability to make sound judgments was significantly compromised during the incident. Brafman is reportedly seeking necessary treatment while cooperating with law enforcement.

The Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations has called for federal hate crime charges against Brafman, citing his alleged bias against Palestinians as grounds for such charges, regardless of the victims' actual ethnicity.

This incident highlights the importance of addressing mental health issues and combating bias-motivated crimes in our communities. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter to ensure justice is served for the victims and to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
