A Florida man found himself in a troubling situation last week when he became a victim of burglary and assault in his own home due to leaving drugs out in the open. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd revealed the details of the incident, which led to the arrest of both the victim and the perpetrator.
The victim, identified as 59-year-old Everett Brown from Frostproof, was reportedly facing harassment from a group of juveniles. One of the juveniles, a 14-year-old named Phillip Sutton IV, allegedly broke into Brown's home and attacked him with a broom handle, prompting Brown to call 911 for assistance.
Upon arriving at the scene, Polk County deputies discovered cocaine in plain view inside Brown's residence. Sutton was arrested on charges of burglary and battery, while Brown himself was also taken into custody for possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
Brown was subsequently booked into jail on November 5 and was released on November 9 after posting a $5,000 bond. Sheriff Judd emphasized the unfortunate nature of the incident, stating that while Brown did not deserve to be victimized, he should have taken precautions to secure his drugs before contacting law enforcement.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible drug handling and the potential legal consequences of drug possession. Both Brown and Sutton are now facing legal proceedings as a result of the incident.
