Florida State Representative Hillary Cassel announced her decision to switch her party affiliation from Democrat to Republican, citing concerns including the Democratic Party's position on Israel.

In a statement, Cassel, a "proud Jewish woman," expressed frustration with the Democratic Party's "failure to unequivocally support Israel" and its tolerance of "extreme progressive voices" she believes justify or condone terrorism.

"I can no longer remain in a party that doesn't represent my values," she said.

Cassel emphasized her commitment to serving her constituents and noted that joining the Republican Conference of the Florida House of Representatives aligns with her vision for a "better, more prosperous Florida."

While acknowledging potential policy disagreements with Republicans, Cassel praised the party's collaborative approach and focus on finding common-sense solutions to issues affecting Floridians.

Cassel's defection adds to a recent uptick in rightward political shifts. Another Florida Representative, Susan Valdes, left the Democratic Party for the Republican conference earlier this month. In Texas, Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina announced his decision to leave the "Radical" Democratic Party for the GOP.

Cassel reaffirmed her resolve to deliver for her constituents, stating, "The House Republican Conference empowers members to collaborate, which is the cornerstone of effective government. Those are my values."
