Florida, Georgia, South Carolina Declare States Of Emergency For Hurricane Debby

Tropical storm Ophelia approaches North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, and South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster have taken proactive measures by declaring states of emergency in anticipation of Hurricane Debby's imminent landfall.

Gov. DeSantis announced on Sunday that the Florida National Guard has been activated to provide assistance with humanitarian efforts and search and rescue operations during the storm.

Residents in the affected areas, particularly in Tallahassee, are advised to complete their storm preparations and prepare for potential power outages. Gov. DeSantis emphasized the likelihood of fallen trees, debris, and interruptions in power supply due to the storm's impact.

Concerns about flooding were also raised, with the governor urging Floridians to avoid floodwaters, especially in North Central Florida where significant flooding is expected. He cautioned against driving through flooded streets, citing it as a leading cause of fatalities during flood events.

As Hurricane Debby approaches, residents are urged to stay informed, follow safety guidelines, and heed evacuation orders if necessary to ensure their well-being and that of their communities.
