Florida car crash: Audio emerges of emergency response to collision that killed British family

An audio recording has emerged of the aftermath of a car crash that killed four members of a British family in Florida.

The group were returning from a visit to the Kennedy Space Centre when they turned their rental car into the path of a black Ford pickup truck.

Photographs of the scene of the crash showed the black vehicle embedded in the side of a white Mitsubishi. Police said a probe into the crash was ongoing.

“Colombia and Sisson, Colombia and Sisson, three people unconscious,” says one emergency responder in the recording.

“One driver doesn’t have a pulse.”

A male voice then says: “Three people in the white car – I do not have a pulse on all four of them.”

“We have CPR in progress for two white males,” says another responder. “Two other occupants that are trapped in the vehicle.”

Adam Stephenson, 30, Maryanne Stephenson, 29, Brian Stephenson, 66, and Sheralyn Stephenson, 56, were all later pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to hospital and his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

Police believe Adam Stephenson, who was driving the white Mitsubishi, was following the instructions of the GPS system on the car that told him to perform a U-turn at an intersection.

The instruction was likely caused by an earlier crash on the road that had blocked the road, police said.
