Florida boaters have found more cocaine in the Gulf of Mexico after recent storms, this time worth more than a half-million dollars.
On Monday, boaters came across a microwave-sized package covered in barnacles off Panther Key near Port of the Islands.
The boaters turned the package over to authorities, who said it contained 56 pounds of cocaine worth $625,000. They said they believe the package, found stuck in mangroves, had been blown in by recent Hurricane Debby.
This comes a little over a week after a good samaritan turned in $1 million worth of cocaine on a Florida beach in the wake of the storm.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page that they "appreciate the help of Good Samaritans" and are investigating the new package found.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office Facebook post went on to say: "Detectives said the cocaine most likely washed in with the tides from the east coast due to recent storms. Large packages of drugs ranging from marijuana to hashish to cocaine have been discovered floating in the waters off Miami and the Florida Keys."
