It's certainly no secret that white is arguably the most failsafe color we can choose when it comes to creating a space that will stand the test of time. This versatile neutral has long impressed designers, but it's also approved by Hollywood's elite, starting, not least, with Florence Pugh.
The Oppenheimer actress made a case for the classic all-white kitchen in her space that exhibits veined marble, cabinets, tiles, and wall paint in this hue.
As with all neutrals, there can be an assumption that, in all their beauty, white kitchens are at risk of feeling boring. However, in experimenting with varying textures (primarily marble, wood, and kitchen tiles), Florence has ensured her space remains interesting – something that hasn't gone unnoticed by designers.
'White is a neutral, elegant color that works with different design styles, from traditional to modern spaces. There are plenty of white materials that have texture and depth: beautiful marble, tiles, and countertop finishes will mean your white kitchen won't feel boring or plain,' comments San Francisco-based designer Soledad Alzaga.
When we pair our white paint with statement veined marble, Subway tiles, or both (Florence Pugh has, after all), we futureproof our kitchen while ensuring it's fashionable enough to start design conversations. However, textures aside, Soledad explains that we can add further interest through accessible finishes that will elevate our spaces without a sizeable investment.
'You can easily personalize white kitchens with accessories, hardware, and decorations without doing a major renovation,' she comments. We also recommend picking up some white ornaments that simultaneously showcase our personality and bring interest to our shelves and kitchen countertops.
However, whatever design decision we make (whether that's marble or smaller accessories), Soledad reassures us that we're making a safe investment.
'White kitchens have always been popular and will remain so. New materials and trends will come and go, but a white kitchen will always be a classic. The color is a safe investment as it helps with the resale value of your home and is appealing to more people,' she says.
And, while we imagine Florence Pugh's home is far from compact, Soledad explains this size-enhancing color is perfect for small kitchens, too. 'White reflects light, making a space brighter and inviting while also making it seem larger and cleaner,' she explains. 'The color is timeless and versatile', and will forever transcend trends. How could we not follow Florence's cue?
