Queen’s death: When will floral tributes be removed from Green Park and Hyde Park, and what happens next?

Flowers placed in Royal Parks as a tribute to the Queen will be left in place for at least another week.

Thousands of floral tributes were left in designated areas in Hyde Park and Green Park in the lead up to the funeral of Elizabeth II on Monday.

The Royal Parks earlier said: “Tributes will be left on site until all ceremonial activity has taken place. It is expected that all floral tributes will be removed from park areas from seven to fourteen days after the date of the funeral.”

It added: “Tributes will be monitored throughout and if floral tributes have deteriorated, they will be removed and taken to the Hyde Park nursery for processing to prepare them for composting.”

After the flowers are removed, they will be taken away for any remaining packaging to be taken off before being composted in the nearby Kensington Gardens.

Parks wardens have already been moving floral tributes in good conditions from other sites to Hyde or Green parks with those in a poorer state being composted.

While thousands of flowers have been placed, the parks have discouraged the leaving of cards or gifts such as teddy bears or balloons. It has been reported that there were instances of Paddington Bear toys and marmalade sandwiches being left after a sketch involving the character and the Queen aired during her platinum jubilee celebrations.

Candles have also been left in designated sanded areas.
