A 14-year-old schoolboy who was killed after he was reportedly crushed by a fairground ride has had heartfelt tributes left in his honour.
Mackenzie Croxford-Cook, from Deal, died despite the best efforts of the emergency services who rushed to a fairground in Dover yesterday around 7.45am.
Despite their best efforts, the youngster was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is believed the teenager went to the fair for a dare and climbed over a ride whilst it was closed and still under construction.
Locals said they had heard a group of around six youngsters had climbed over fencing on the perimeter to into the fairground.
The fair was not open to the public at the time of the incident but was due to be open yesterday afternoon before Mackenzie's tragic death.
The ride involved in his death has been removed.
Since the incident, a number of heartfelt tributes have been left in his honour near to the entrance of the fair.
One message read: "To Mackenzie, you don't know how much people are gonna miss you [...] We all loved you."
Another tribute read: "Rest in peace, you went too soon. I wish you were still here, I miss your hugs, smile, laugh and everything you do. You were too young."
Kent Police confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious and that the Health and Safety Executive has been assisting the emergency service response.
A spokesperson for Forrest Amusements said: "We are deeply shocked and saddened to hear about the tragic incident which occurred this morning (Wednesday 3rd August) at one of our funfair events in Pencester Gardens, Dover.
"Kent Police have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner. The Health and Safety Executive has attended the scene along with the emergency services."
A Health and Safety Executive spokesman said: “ We are currently making initial enquiries. Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of those affected by this tragic incident.”
