Flooding and heavy rains set to batter Scotland in wake of Storm Lorenzo

A severe weather warning has been issued for much of Scotland with set to batter the country over the weekend.

The Met Office warned flooding is likely across homes and business as bad weather rolls in on Sunday. The warning is currently in place from 6am for 12 hours.

Areas affected include Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, southwest Scotland, Lothian Borders and Strathclyde.

Forecasters are predicting 15-30 mm of rain during Sunday, with 40-50mm falling in places, mostly in a six hour period.

Transport services may be affected with roads expected to be submerged in water.

The entire of the east coast and much of central England is also due to take a battering.

The flooding comes after Storm Lorenzo battered Ireland during Thursday and Friday.

A Met Office statement read: "Heavy rain is expected across parts of Scotland during Saturday night before extending to northern and eastern England during Sunday.

"Within the warning area many parts will see 15-30 mm of rain during Sunday with the potential for as much as 40-50 mm in places, much of this falling in a 6 hour period.

"At this stage, there is still some uncertainty regarding the location of where the heaviest rain will occur."
