Flood warnings in place across Scotland with 'heavy rain' expected

THE Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) have issued a number of flood warnings for various parts of the country.

A Met Office yellow weather warning is in place for much of the south-west of Scotland from 6pm on Friday night until 9pm on Saturday.

However, according to Sepa’s website, there are also a number of flood alerts as well as more severe flood warnings in place.

Flood warnings are currently in place in the following locations:

  • The River Isla at Coupar Angus
  • Kemphill to Bridge of Isla
  • Bridge of Ruthven to Leitfie
  • Blairgowrie to the River Isla
  • Aberbothrie
  • Churchill Barriers

In a statement on Twitter/X, SEPA said: “River levels remain high and localised flooding is expected due to a combination of heavy rain last night and further showers today.

“The unsettled weather will continue through the weekend, with further localised flooding.”

Flood alerts are also in place in the following areas:

  • Dundee and Angus
  • Tayside
  • Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City
  • Ayrshire and Arran
  • Central
  • Dumfries and Galloway
  • Fife
  • Scottish Borders
  • West Central Scotland

The yellow weather warning meanwhile has been issued as heavy rain is expected with the Met Office confirming that “flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible”.

The forecaster added that bus and train services will “probably be affected with journey times taking longer” and that driving conditions could be made harder due to “spray and flooding on roads”.
