Flood warnings have been put in place across the North East following a day of torrential rain that caused disruption across the region.
Public transport systems were severely affected, including the Metro which suspended several services. The opening of Newcastle's Winter Wonderland was also cancelled.
The Met Office had issued a yellow alert, which ended on Friday morning. According to the forecast, the rain is likely to ease off over the weekend, though showers should still be expected.

As a result, several flood alerts have been issued across Northumberland, Newcastle and Co Durham. The Environment Agency says that the affected areas are being monitored by incident response staff.
Flood alerts are in place for:
- River Derwent
- River Team
- River Don
- Lower River Wear
- Ouse Burn
- River Pont
- River Blyth
- River Coquet
- River Wansbeck
- River Rede
The Environment Agency says that members of the public should "avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water".
