Flood alerts across the entirety of England with warnings of even more heavy rain to come

Flood alerts have been issued across most of England as forecasters warned Brits of more rain to come this week.

Following heavy rain, three flood warnings - meaning flooding is expected - are also in place and Brits have been urged to act quickly to prevent serious accidents or damage.

Across England, there are currently 24 flood alerts - meaning flooding is possible - and anyone living in the areas affected should be aware of the steps they need to take in case the alert becomes severe.

The Met Office said the weather will remain unsettled with wet and windy spells this week.

This morning, heavy rain pushed in from the southwest with some places recording more than 30mm.

Motorists have been warned that roads could become flooded (PA)

The government website explained that if there is a flood warning or alert in your area, you should move vehicles to higher ground if it is safe to do so.

It was also recommended to ensure that pets are in a safe place.

Brits are also advised to move important items upstairs or to a safe place in the property, starting with cherished items and valuables, then furniture and furnishings

If it is safe to do so, you should also turn off your gas, electricity, and water supplies.

Importantly, you should never touch an electrical switch if you are standing in water.

Those living in properties with protection products such as floor barriers or air brick covers should use them when a warning or alert is issued.
