The Floating Earth's creator, Luke Jerram, praised Liverpool's interest in not only his work but culture as a whole.
The project was a part of Liverpool's Eurovision Song Contest welcome and one of the first installations to appear around the city. From April 28 - May 18, the 10-metre art installation was anchored at the Royal Albert Dock and went on to extend its stay until May 21 after public demand.
Luke originally brought the installation to the Anglican Cathedral in 2019 before rehousing it on the docks. He admitted he couldn't pick a favourite home for his work but gushed over the response from Liverpool as a whole.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said: "I think people in Liverpool sort of get culture in a way that other cities perhaps don't. There's an appetite for it. There's an understanding of it. It's been really nice to see [the Floating Earth] pop up in different news stories globally and I think it's also helped sort of celebrate the architecture and the history of Liverpool as well. So that's been really nice."
The Floating Earth has become synonymous with Liverpool's Eurovision iconography but Luke hopes his work can stand on its own merits. He said: "I'm really happy about it. It'll be interesting to see whether people will always think of it in relation to Eurovision from now on I'm not entirely sure. Hopefully, the artwork will still have its own integrity.
"But it's just really nice to see it surrounded by the interesting architecture. There are various photographs so it's very nice to see."
Teasing future projects Liverpool residents may soon be able to enjoy, Luke said: "I'm working on a new artwork at the moment which I'm hoping to bring to the River of Light festival later on in the year and that's a completely different artwork. So I'm quite excited about that. So yeah, you have to watch this space and see."
