Labour won the most seats in Flintshire with 31 councillors elected, two less than in 2017. Independents have just one seat less with 30 councillors elected after a surge in votes in several areas, particularly in Connah's Quay. It was a mixed day for Labour and they fell short of an overall majority with Independents increased both their seats by eight and share of the vote.
It was a bad day for the Conservatives, winning just two seats which mirrored their struggles elsewhere across the country. The most dramatic vote was to be found in Holywell Central where Labour's Ted Palmer pipped Independent Daniel Thomas by one vote - 224 to 223.
Flintshire Council leader, Labour's Ian Roberts was successful in the Flint Castle ward once again. He reflected on a mixed day for his party. Cllr Roberts said: "Personally, my result was the first to be declared today. I was very pleased with how it went in my ward.
"The day has been a bit like a rollercoaster really, with some highs and some lows during the day. Winning four seats in Mold is absolutely fantastic, but losing the seats that we've lost in Connah's is extremely disappointing but the electorate have spoken and we respect the result of the election. More importantly now as newly elected councillors to Flintshire County Council we have a duty to make sure we continue to provide services for the people of Flintshire."
