Airports in Tehran, Iran have taken precautionary measures by suspending flights until 6:00 a.m. local time on Monday. This decision was announced by Iran's state-aligned Tasnim news agency and semi-official news outlet ISNA. Both Iman Khomeini Airport, which handles international flights, and Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport, which caters to domestic flights, have cancelled all incoming and outgoing flights.
In addition to the airports in Tehran, flights in several other cities across Iran have also been affected. Airports in Shiraz, Isfahan, Bushehr, Kerman, Ilam, Sanandaj, and other locations in the western part of the country have reported cancellations as well. This widespread disruption is a result of the current tensions in the region and the need for heightened security measures.
The situation escalated further when Lufthansa and its subsidiary Austrian Airlines, the only two Western carriers operating international flights to Iran, decided to suspend their services to and from Tehran. This move was made in response to concerns about a potential retaliatory strike by Iran against Israel, prompting airlines to prioritize passenger safety and security.
As a result, travelers are advised to stay updated on the latest developments and contact their respective airlines for information regarding rescheduled flights or alternative travel arrangements. The decision to suspend flights underscores the importance of prioritizing safety and security in times of heightened geopolitical tensions.
