Flightline Cruises to Victory in 2022 Breeders' Cup

If anyone had any doubts around Flightline’s dominance, they were given quite a reminder in Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Classic.

The 4-year-old bay colt flipped his usual switch around the turn, pulling away from Life is Good as he entered the final stretch to win the Classic and improve to 6-0 over his career. Flightline outlasted a field of seven challengers in the 39th edition of the classic that included winning by an estimated 8-1/4 lengths over second-place Olympiad to win $6 million at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington.

Bob Baffert’s Taiba came in third while 2022 Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike finished fourth in the 1 1/4-mile race. Flightline was a 3/5 favorite heading into the race.

A stall accident prevented Flightline from racing until April 24, 2021. Flightline did not participate in the 2020 edition of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, as well as the 2021 Triple Crown races.

His first race took place at Grade 1 Malibu at Santa Anita on Dec. 26.
