A FLIGHT bound for Scotland was forced to U-turn before landing due to a mid-air alert.
The KLM flight had been due to land in Edinburgh after leaving Amsterdam Schiphol Airport shortly before 7.20am on Friday.
However, the pilot was forced to divert back to the Netherlands after a 7700 squawk code was issued.
The KL923 flight had just approached the east of the UK before it was forced to turn away.
The airline confirmed the flight had to be diverted due to technical reasons.
A spokesperson for KLM said: “KLM flight KL923 to Edinburgh was diverted to Amsterdam due to technical reasons.
“The plane landed safely and according to standard procedures. The safety of our passengers and crew members has not been compromised.”
