Flight attendants reveal passengers' most disgusting habits from toe nails to wigs

We've all encountered some disgusting fellow passengers while on a plane to our holiday destinations.

But spare a thought for flight attendants have to spend endless flights and hours in the sky keeping things running surrounded by them.

Many of them have shared their worst experiences with travellers online.

This includes Shawn Kathleen, a former flight attendant who created an account called Passenger Shaming dedicated to highlighting badly behaved travellers.

The photos are sent in by flight staff around the world, along with fellow passengers who are disgusted by the behaviour exhibited.

Now we've taken a look at some of the unwelcome behaviours recorded on her popular Instagram account.

1. Clipping toenails

The woman was called out on Instagram (Instagram)

A woman was shamed after a photo captured her clipping her toddler's nails mid-air.

The unknown traveller risked sparking an air rage row after a horrified passenger spotted the unhygienic act.

He wrote in the caption of the image: "Why [is[ this lady clipping her toddler’s toenails on the lane?"

The pic prompted a slew of comments - with many people criticising the act.

One Instagram user posted the vomiting emoji while another wrote 'WTF'.

2. Changing your clothes mid-air

This passenger was caught in the act stripping whilst other travellers were forced to walk by.

Mercifully, he's not showing any more skin but changing you clothes in the plane definitely falls under 'what not to do onboard.'

One horrified viewer summed up the image, writing: "Oh boy. Why do people do these things."

Another person joked: “He needs to rethink his life if he can’t wait until at least a lavatory is open… Offensive in so many ways.”

3. Bare feet

Many passengers shared the woman's disgust (PassengerShaming/Instagram)

Bare feet are often a controversial sight on planes.

For reasons unknown to many of us, some travellers are happy to take their shoes and sock off, despite many, many passengers opposing it.

Last year, one women's flight really stank - and she had the selfie to prove it.

Reddit user u/Addian4 shared a photo featuring her with two dirty, bare feet perched on her headrest.

Her caption aptly summed up the horror: “This is the one thing I am most worried about before getting on a plane."

4. Leaving a bag of urine for staff to clear up

A passenger was called out after being accused of leaving a bag full of wee tied to a plane seat.

The gross pic shows a transparent plastic carrier filled with suspicious-looking yellow fluid.

The Passenger Shaming account posted the image with the caption: "Just your typical leftover bag o’pee and random slipper on a Wednesday."

One horrified Instagram user wrote: “Whoever did this has nudged me further towards losing faith in humanity.

5. Cleaning a wig

Truly a baffling experience for flight attendants and fellow passengers as this unknown woman cleaned her wig during a flight.

The image, captioned "don't mind me, just combing the airplane for my wig," on Passenger Shaming left many travellers horrified

One Instagram user joked: "At least there is no dandruff."

Another added: "For a moment she was my hero; I thought she slammed an over-the-seat-hair-hanger’s hair in the tray. But nah. Just another flying freak."

One woman blasted: "Now that’s disgusting."

6. Using the plane vents to dry damp clothing

The disgusting act was roundly criticised (PassengerShaming/Instagram)

This disgusting behaviour alienates all flight attendants and travellers.

The gross image captures a bold passenger drying their "sweaty socks" using the overhead air vents during a flight.

Outraged travellers were quick to criticise, with one Instagram user adding: "If only we fellow passengers are allowed to shove the socks in his mouth!"

Another fuming traveller wrote: "This should be a crime!"

7. Using the plane vents to heat up a slice of pizza

The futile move was captured by a shocked passenger (PassengerShaming.com)

Granted, this would smell better than socks - although they're both distinctly cheesy.

But this odd behaviour is not only unwelcome on flights, but also a terrible way to attempt to heat up the food.

It's also a strange choice considering cold pizza is a delicious option - and it won't lead to fellow travellers questioning your sanity.

One Instagram user commented: “If he knew how many feet have been there..."

Another person joked: “No idea how a virus travelled around the world in 6 months."

8. Inconveniencing other passengers

The woman was branded "disrespectful" (passengershaming/Instagram)

Flight attendants hate being dragged into arguments between travllers.

But this disgusting way of travelling needs to be halted for the unfortunate passenger whose drink now has hair in it.

The image sparked a huge response online, with one man tweeting: “You’ve invented a whole new way to be awful at 35,000 feet.”

Another person joked: “This woman clearly doesn’t realise that the tray table plastic has the most germs of anywhere on a plane.

“Who wants their hair all up in there? Gross. And the level of disrespect to the person behind. Rude.”

9. Leaving a mess for flight attendants to clear up

The disgusting mess was left for staff to clean up (PassengerShaming/Instagram)

Flying can be an uncomfortable experience for many.

It's cramped and difficult to sleep and the food options can often be disappointing.

But there's no excuse for leaving a mess that flight staff have to clear up.

Former air hostess Shawn Kathleen shared her disgust at the image online, captioning the gross photo: "When the flight attendant comes through the cabin with a trash bag asking if you have any rubbish, PUT YOUR S*** IN THE BAG."

10. Bad behaviour

The over-the-top couple faced a barrage of criticism online (passengershaming/Instagram)

This amorous couple were slammed for their raunchy behaviour which got out of control during a flight.

The image went viral online, with many travellers expressing disgust at their over the top actions.

One Instagram user blasted: "Disgusting!!! Only attempt to do this if your looks departement is in the range of, let's say, Brat Pitt or Vanessa Williams. Otherwise, it is really yucky."

Someone else simply said: "Every time I travel, I like the human race less and less."
