Flight attendant wishes passengers would stop ordering Diet Coke on planes

A flight attendant has discussed why she doesn't like serving Diet Coke to passengers on planes.

Jet, a member of cabin crew who writes a blog about her time on planes, said she doesn't have anything against the brand or its taste, but said it can be a "nuisance" to serve.

She explained: "Soft drinks foam up a lot more when poured out of a can, and the worst culprit for this is Diet Coke – I literally have to sit and wait for the bubbles to fall before I can continue pouring.

"If all three passengers ask for Diet Coke I'll often get them started, take another three drink orders, serve those, and then finish the Diet Cokes.

"What you can't see is that the Diet Coke doesn't come out of the can when flipped upside down until you lift it up and tilt it slightly.

"This is because the air pressure is keeping the Coke in the can. It makes pouring the Diet Coke very controllable and reduces the chances of spilling or overflow."

This actually applies to all fizzy drinks. And, passengers should be wary that the dry air in the plane means drinking fizzy drinks and alcohol can leave you feeling ill.

The question of whether it is ok to drink water on planes also cropped up among cabin crew members on social media.

Brodie Capron, who posts on TikTok as @brodie.capron, discussed whether the tap water is safe to drink, with a rumour circulating that the filter isn't regularly cleaned, reports the Mirror.

Brodie said that the tap water on Virgin Australia flights is fine. She said: "She said: "Is the water safe to drink? Yes, it is. It's filtered, and it's clean."

However, fellow flight attendant Deja, who posts videos on TikTok as @i.amdejaa, said: "When you are travelling on an aeroplane please don't drink coffee or tea, or hot chocolate."

She claimed that the water tanks on planes "are never cleaned, and they are very disgusting". She added that people would be better to take their own hot drinks at the airport before the flight.
