Flight attendant reveals 5 things you should never do on 'gross' planes to stay safe

A flight attendant has revealed what travellers should never do on planes as they may not know just how unsanitary they can be.

Tommy Cimato, from Arizona, took to TikTok to share his top tips for fending off the germs while onboard a plane.

His video soon went viral when viewers were left sickened by the revelation that jets can be packed with germs in the areas you'd least expect.

In a clip titled “5 things you should never do on an airplane,” Tommy warned viewers that they should even avoid wearing shorts as seats may not have been properly cleaned before boarding.

He said: “Don’t — or try not to — wear shorts. You never know how clean it’s gonna be, so if you have pants, you’re gonna have less germs."

Tommy also left a tip for travellers opting for the window seat by revealing that it isn't wise to lean your face up against the glass when trying to sleep.

He explained: “Do not fall asleep or lean your head on the window.

"You are not the only one who has done that and you do not know how many children have wiped their hands or other things on the window.”

According to Tommy, passengers should also be extra cautious when using the bathroom - and avoid using the flush button with their bare hands.

“It’s honestly just super unsanitary and it’s pretty gross so use a napkin or a tissue that’s in the lavatory, said Tommy, who previously went viral with an exposé on “mid-air sound you never want to hear.”

In the video, he goes into detail explaining all the chimes passengers can hear throughout the flight, and what they mean.

For example, a high-low two tone chime signifies the cabin crew communicating with each other, while three of those high-low chimes signifies an emergency.

He added: "If you hear just one tone, that means that a passenger is calling one of the flight attendants from their seat or they could be calling us from the lavatory."

Tommy's two other pieces of advice revolved around health on board the plane.

He said passengers should remember to stay hydrated and inform a flight attendant if they begin to feel ill.

Horrified viewers took to the comments to criticise airlines for failing to keep planes clean.

One said: “This just proves you guys don’t clean the plane…”

While another added: “Tell me you don’t clean the plane without telling me you don’t clean the plane.”
