Flight attendant explains why passengers 'should never call to ask for water'

There are many do's and don'ts when flying. Everything from the warning that flying dehydrates so don't drink too much alcohol to tips on how to make the journey more comfortable for you and your fellow passengers. However, a 27-year-old flight attendant, who shared 'what it’s like to work in the skies' with a national newspaper, also says travellers should not ask the crew for water.

Kristina, from Moscow, Russia, claims to have “lots of advice” for passengers. Posting on Instagram to 12,200 followers, @dementevaakristina, told Daily Star that she followed this career path because she had a “passion is for travelling”.

The air-hostess and influencer, who has worked for Aeroflot for six years, says she has visited 24 countries so far on her travels. She noted: “It’s so interesting to learn about new cultures, [having] open eyes in different countries is a good experience.”

Explaining her role she said that her favourite part of the job is “welcoming passengers on board, taking care of passengers, providing any assistance if needed as well as smiling and making passengers smile.” Adding: “I also like those who call me by my name. Who follow the rules of our company and [act] with understanding of our job.”

But, she doesn’t like “destructive” passengers who think they know the job better than she does. With that in mind, her main recommendation for passengers is never to ask the crew for water.

She explained: “Number one – don’t push the call button for asking for a cup of water because our job is hard!” We’d recommend heading to the galley to ask instead so long as the seatbelt sign is switched off. But, don’t be surprised if you catch some of the staff flirting while you’re up there.

Kristina noted: “I know many aviation couples in my job! “Honestly it’s a romantic job, but I try not to make drama or romance with my colleagues.”

Preferring to work in business class rather than economy, Kristina said: “There is a high [level of] service in business class like in the restaurant. Also, the passengers are good.”

She also added: “I prefer long haul flights, because my favourite plane is Boeing 777. Only Boeing has long flights and interesting destinations! But short hours flights I like too if it will be flight to other country because we have free time there – like Spain or France. Actually, Spain is my favourite country – I visited many cities [there]. I like the climate in Spain, food, culture, wine, sea, Spanish architecture! Also, I like the Spanish language.”

But it's not all fun and travel. Kristina noted: “Every year we refresh our knowledge. What to do in emergency situations, how to extinguish a fire or provide medical assistance. We have to pass a lot of exams. It’s hard work, but interesting.”
