Spending eight or more hours every day sitting at a desk is not without its serious health implications.
You are at greater risks of developing a range of chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, colon cancer, muscle weaknesses and obesity.
That is why so many people are now trying out standing while you work, which is not as crazy an idea as it seems. It is hugely beneficial to alternate your posture during the working day.
Standing desks allow workers to use their IT kit from both standing and sitting positions, with potentially huge health benefits.
Electric models make raising and lowering the desk – to precise heights that suit you best – as easy as pushing a button.
Comhar EG8 features
I’ve been testing the Flexispot Comhar EG8 Standing Desk, a sit-stand desk that is equipped with a motor-driven system to adjust height and an anti-collision system to help prevent accidents.
It’s an easy-to-use machine with simple elevation controls and plenty of space on which to put your computing devices and peripherals.
You can buy the tempered-glass-top desk in black or white and it looks and feels really premium. I especially love the matte finish of the metal frame. The classy design suits any room.
And the inclusion of two USB-A and one USB-C ports for charging is so practical and helpful. Each can charge up to 18W, which is enough to charge a phone, a tablet and a set of earphones simultaneously.
There’s also a drawer for storage which is spacious enough to hold a laptop and other accessories when not in use.
It’s not the desk to buy if you have a desktop PC or Mac or multiple monitors. But Flexispot has other options you could look at instead.
Setting Comhar EG8 up
Setting Comhar EG8 up is straightforward – it takes about 10 minutes – and all of the tools you need are in the package. The firm recommends laying the glass top on a blanket or using its packaging to protect it during assembly.
The desktop is 120cm x 60cm in size with a thickness of 1.27cm. It’s heavy enough so you won’t be moving it around too easily (unless you buy the optional casters).
The lifting system is quick to respond, easy to control and quiet in operation. It can take a load of up to 50kg. The keypad with the motor controls is integrated into the desk.
There are Up and Down buttons to push to raise and lower the desk. The height adjusts from 72cm to 121cm. You also get four programmable height memory muttons for multiple positions requirements. This is a handy feature for anyone sharing the desk with others.
A Child Lock Button stops accidental control that might disturb your desk setup when you’re not around to check.
The anti-collision function blocks the desktop from being damaged or crushing other objects and devices while in motion.
The motor is guaranteed for three years, incidentally, and the frame is guaranteed for five.
Verdict
The firm manufactures a range of excellent work-at-home products but the Comhar EG8 is at the top of the tree and one of the best motorised standing desks you can buy.
It’s so easy to set up and the integrated drawer and USB ports are such useful extras.
