A half-century-old family-run vehicle repair shop has lodged an application to build a brand new car showroom, and another house of multiple occupation (HMO) looks set to come to Grangetown.
These are just some of the planning applications that have been made to and decided by Cardiff Council recently. Here are the stand-out applications from the past week.

Cathays
An application has been made to change the access times of a pedestrian walkway outside a major student accommodation complex. A proposal has been put to Cardiff Council to make the southwest pedestrian entrance outside the Unite Students complex near Maindy Road a 24 hour access walkway.
It is currently only accessible between 7am and 8pm. Another application relating to a property in Cathays which proposed a mixed-use development for flats and retail space has been withdrawn. The application, relating to 123 Richards Street, included plans to turn the property into six flats, two retail units and an office.
Leckwith
Plans have been submitted for the construction of a new vehicle showroom to be attached to a family-run vehicle repair shop. If approved, the proposed new vehicle showroom would be located at the front of Tanners off Whittle Road. Tanners is a family business that was established in 1969.
Grangetown
Permission has been granted to change a property on Harrison Way into a four-bedroom house of multiple occupation (HMO).
Splott
Permission has been granted for the construction of a new residential unit on land to the rear of a property on Habershon Street. The disused piece of land to the rear of 171 Habershon Street will be turned into a studio flat.
Riverside
Plans to develop to convert and extend a property on Cowbridge Road East to provide more accommodation have been given the go-ahead. Cardiff Cardiff approved plans to convert the upper floors of 128 Cowbridge Road East into eight flats and associated works.
