A cold front moving through the Northeast has connected with tropical moisture from Debby, resulting in heavy rainfall in the New Jersey and Philadelphia areas.
Flash flood warnings have been issued for various parts of the region, including Philadelphia, Morristown, and Trenton in New Jersey.
The National Weather Service has warned of the potential for 'life-threatening flooding' in Philadelphia, where several roads have already been flooded due to 3 to 5 inches of rainfall.
Newark has received between 2 to 4.5 inches of rain, with the possibility of another inch to come.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, parts of the New York City area were also under flash flood warnings, but those have now expired. New York City has experienced rainfall ranging from 1.5 to 4.5 inches and could see an additional inch.
The majority of the rainfall is expected to pass through the area in the next few hours. Flood watches will remain in effect for New York and Philadelphia until Wednesday morning.
