Flaming meteor lights up sky across Merseyside

A flaming meteor was spotted burning through the sky over the weekend by eagle eyed viewers.

The rock left a green and blue trial as it entered the earth's atmosphere on Saturday, January 29, and was seen in clear skies right across the UK.

Many people took to social media to question what the "bright light" actually was and people in Merseyside were left wondering if it was an unidentified flying object (UFO).

The UK Meteor Network confirmed the reports and posted pictures of the object on Twitter.

They tweeted: "Large #fireball meteor spotted tonight 29 Jan 2022 at 18:48:26 UT from several UKMON cameras."

Hundreds of people were quick to reply with their images and videos they were able to capture of the unusual sighting.

One user said they were "incredibly lucky" to catch a sighting whilst another said it "looked amazing".

The flaming rock was spotted in the sky by eagle eyed viewers in parts of Merseyside and North Wales as well as Scotland and mainland Europe.
