Flames engulf back of Glasgow bus after it dramatically bursts into flames while on move

This is the moment the back of a moving bus is engulfed in flames after catching in in Glasgow.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the vehicle blaze on Linkwood Drive in Drumchapel after reports came in around 6.35pm on Wednesday April 6.

In dramatic footage shared with the Record, flames spout from the vents at the back of the double decker, reaching as high as the window of the upper deck.

As the 6a service grinds to a halt, dark smoke belches from the opening and the flames appear to shoot out almost horizontally.

Concerned bystanders are seen rushing towards the front of the vehicle, presumably to warn the driver.

Christopher Leyden, who filmed the incident, told how he flagged down the vehicle as others rushed to the aid of the driver and passengers.

Leyden told the Record: "I can’t believe that it actually happened in front of us.

"I think there was a few people [on board].

"The driver got a fright...I asked the driver if he was ok he looked in shock and distress at what had just happened."

"I’m just glad that I managed to stop the driver and no one was hurt and everyone was ok."

Luckily, no-one was injured as a result of the fire - but bosses at First Bus say the vehicle will be off the roads while the cause of the blaze is investigated.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call to attend a bus fire on Linkwood Drive, Glasgow, at 6.35pm on April 6 2022.

"We mobilised two appliances to attend. The fire was extinguished and we stood down at 7.54pm."

A spokesperson for First Bus said: "We can confirm that one of our buses operating on the Glasgow 6A service was damaged earlier today.

"No injuries were sustained.”
