Brazilian outfit Flamengo are reportedly showing great interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison.
Flamengo recently tabled a €21 million (£17.4 million) bid for the centre-forward, but it was not enough to convince Spurs to sell their frontman.
Tottenham Hotspur agreed to pay a handsome £50 million plus £10 million in potential add-ons to prize Richarlison away from Everton in July 2022. The Brazilian’s explosive pace and eye for goal pushed Spurs to loosen their purse strings. Over the last two and a half seasons, Richarlison has shown flashes of his quality, but he has not been consistent.
Flamengo Eager to Sign Tottenham Hotspur Ace Richarlison
His erratic performances have birthed rumours about his future, with reports linking him with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. According to Fichajes.net, Brazilian outfit Flamengo are keen to capitalize on this situation and lure Richarlison back to his country. They believe the versatile forward, who is still in his prime, could help them dominate all South American competitions.
Pulling off the transfer is easier said than done, as Tottenham Hotspur will not settle for a small fee. Flamengo have already struck out once after tabling a €21 million (£17.4 million) bid for the 27-year-old. They now know that they must put in a minimum €40 million (£33.1 million) bid to have a shot at signing Richarlison.
Tottenham’s demand has made the transfer trickier for Flamengo, but they are not throwing in the towel just yet. It is, however, unclear whether Richarlison would entertain leaving Europe so early in his career.
As Flamengo mulls over the transfer fee, Tottenham also have a decision to make. According to the aforementioned report, the club are at a crossroads, as they are unsure whether they want to keep Richarlison or part ways. Although the Lilywhites acknowledge Richarlison’s shortcomings, they still believe the forward’s versatility could be key to their sporting project. Additionally, since Flamengo want to sign him in January, Tottenham could struggle to find a suitable alternative for him.
Richarlison has played 73 games for Ange Postecoglou’s side in all competitions so far. He has scored just 16 goals and provided nine assists. Richarlison, who has scored 20 goals for Brazil in 48 games, sees his contract expire on June 30, 2027.
