Flagship clothing store set to open on Donegall Place in former DW Sports site

A former DW Sports shop in Belfast city centre is set to get a new lease of life with a popular clothing brand set to move in.

49 Donegall Place on one of the city's busiest thoroughfares for shoppers has been sitting vacant since DW Sports went into administration in 2020.

The ground floor of the 12,000 sq ft retail space is understood to have been leased by UK and Ireland high-street fashion brand DV8 who currently have stores in CastleCourt and the Kennedy Centre.

The site was being marketed by McKibben and Savills Ireland who said the property would be considered for sub-division.

McKibben's property listing read: "The property occupies a prime location in the heart of Belfast’s commercial retail centre.

"The premises is an imposing 5 storey retail building located on Donegall Place, adjacent to Boots and opposite Marks & Spencer and Next.

"Donegall Place is Belfast’s traditional prime retail pitch anchored by Marks & Spencer, Boots, Zara, New Look, Primark, Next, River Island, Disney Store, JD Sports, Footlocker and Gap."

DV8 Fashion is one of the most recognised fashion names on the High Street with over 50 stores and a website stocking over 100 clothing and footwear brands since 1994.

This news comes as another boost to Donegall Place as a popular restaurant chain has expressed interest in opening in the former Burger King site.

The Ivy restaurant chain, known for its upmarket brasseries and neighbourhood cafés, wants to open a restaurant at Units 3 and 4 of 56 Cleaver House.

Troia (UK) Restaurants Limited has applied to Belfast City Council's planning committee for permission to create a new two-storey franchise eaterie at Cleaver House on the corner of Donegall Place and Donegall Square North, a landmark six-floor building of retail and office accommodation.
