FKA Twigs sued Hollywood star Shia LaBeouf almost four years ago for assault, infliction of emotional distress and sexual battery, but the case is still ongoing. On October 18, the musician accused LaBeouf of being “egregiously evasive and nonresponsive”, after he missed his deposition on October 11.
FKA Twigs — birth name Tahliah Debrett Barnett — submitted a statement to the court about LaBeouf’s alleged behaviour.
“LaBeouf’s responses to written discovery in this case has been egregiously evasive and nonresponsive, which has ultimately resulted in a document production consisting of only nine pages,” her statement reads.
“It appears that LaBeouf has something to hide, as LaBeouf has suspiciously claimed he no longer has any other responsive documents in his possession or control, as he lost or misplaced his electronic devices, or destroyed relevant information prior to the initiation of this action.”
She claimed that on her side, she “has produced voluminous responsive documents and substantive written responses”.
FKA Twigs also took aim at LaBeouf for missing his deposition by becoming “suddenly unavailable”.
“Now, at the eleventh hour, LaBeouf inexplicably refuses to be deposed first, despite entering into multiple agreements between counsel that both parties would be deposed within the same week, and that LaBeouf’s deposition would take place first,” the court document reads.
Her filing goes on to say that LaBeouf and FKA Twigs had agreed that they would be deposed in person in the very same week, with the Transformers star appearing first. However, while FKA Twigs would rearrange her busy schedule to travel to Los Angeles from London, LaBeouf’s sudden inability to appear has meant litigation has been dragged out.
“LaBeouf has reneged on his longstanding agreement, and thus, the parties are forced to seek relief from this Court… if no such agreement existed, then LaBeouf would have been deposed years prior as he is a Los Angeles resident,” the filing adds.
However, LaBeouf’s lawyers responded with a scathing statement, saying that FKA Twigs has been “working so much that she has been too busy over the past two years to even appear for her deposition”.
His attorneys claimed that there was no such agreement between the pair.
“Plaintiff’s desire to take Shia’s deposition first in a largely ‘he said, she said’ case is not ‘good cause’ for a protective order in her favour’,” their counter filing reads.
“He should not be prejudiced by Plaintiff’s maneuvers in defending against her $10 million claim.”
The lawsuit in question was filed by the singer in 2020, where she claimed her ex-boyfriend assaulted her while saying, “If you don’t stop you are going to lose me.” She also accused LaBeouf of physically attacking her, giving her an STI and more.
LaBeouf has publically denied all allegations. There will be a key hearing held on Friday, and a trial date will finally be set then.
