Fixture release, transfer news and this summer’s big Newcastle United questions answered

It’s been a busy week on Tyneside, with Newcastle United supporters now knowing the fixtures that will kick off their 2023/24 season.

The Magpies will face Aston Villa on opening day, followed by a trip to Manchester City the following week, and fans have been responding with optimism to the tricky start now that the new season feels closer.

Two players who won’t be as excited are Ciaran Clark and Matty Longstaff after their release was confirmed earlier in the week. In total, eight players were let go by United, with more – including Matt Ritchie – offered new deals.

Another point of interest this week was the official opening of the transfer window, and with Newcastle now competing on all four fronts next term, it’s expected to be a busy one. The first breakthrough was made this week with the signing of Yankuba Minteh from Odense Boldklub, and if reports are to be believed, Nicolo Barella is one of the names who could follow.

Last week also saw the launch of the Big Newcastle United Forum, and today we’re giving you the chance to put your questions to us directly.
