Five-year-old year old West Denton boy collects huge donations for local foodbank

A five-year-old boy from West Denton has collected massive amounts of donations for a Newcastle foodbank.

What started as a piece of homework has grown into a huge operation.

After getting in touch with a local convenience store, Archie Mair was given crates of food by the kind-hearted owner and his endeavour only grew from that point.

#TeamArchie has even been trending on Twitter after a huge reaction to his generous actions.

His mother Leanne is very proud of Archie and she has spoken about the reception to his donations.

"It all started when Archie was given his act of kindness homework, and he came to me saying 'Mum what is Christmas like for the less fortunate?' After I explained to him about foodbanks and the role that they play, he was eager to help out as much as he could.

"The reaction from the local people and all over social media has been amazing. It has been such a great feeling to see so many people donating food and money to Archie's cause. He has raised over £200 and has used the money to buy essential items for CDW Foodbank."

The CDW Foodbank is based in West Denton Community Church and they receive donations from local residents and local businesses and use them to fight hunger.

Archie is not done yet, and he wants to continue working with CDW Foodbank and helping the less fortunate in different ways.

"My homework was on an act of kindness so I decided to do this to be kind. People need food and I want to help people that can't get it," he said.
