Who needs Game Informer’s month of exclusive, non-stop Destiny 2: Forsaken reveals? I’m going to write my own Forsaken content! I have no inside information or exclusive things to share. I do, however, have my own list of things I want to see from Forsaken, whether Game Informer reveals them or not.
The “vibe” of Forsaken is pretty clear. Bungie is going for a darker, Western revenge theme in the wake of Prince Uldren killing Cayde-6 with the help of eight grotesque Fallen Barons we’re supposed to hunt down. But story aside, if we’re going with a western theme, I really want to go full western theme, and that includes the loot pool.
Here are five things I must see from Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion:
1. HUNTER PONCHOS
Hunter cloaks have been in a pretty rough spot since Destiny 1 ended, and this is a chance for Bungie to turn things around. Fans have been asking for Hunter ponchos since even before we knew that Forsaken had a western vibe to it, and it stands to reason that we should definitely be getting some now. Granted, they’re going to be covering up about 70% of your chest armor if they’re a part of your cloak, but I’d say it’s totally worth it. Hunters have always been gunslinger-inspired (there’s literally a subclass called that), but this is a chance to really go all the way. So far we’ve only seen Uldren himself wearing a poncho, but NPC armor is usually no indicator of what we as Guardians will be able to wear, so I’m not saying this is a guarantee yet.
2. WARLOCK DUSTERS
If Hunters get ponchos, it seems pretty clear to me that Warlock robes should be converted into Warlock duster trenchcoats to continue with this theme. Warlock robes are another aspect of Destiny armor that’s suffered in this sequel, as there are only a handful of good ones. Give us some badass space dusters and all of that will change.
3. TITAN HELMET HATS
Alright I’m kind of joking with this one because I couldn’t think of anything good for Titans. Boots? Chaps? Just anything that IS NOT this abomination of an armor set, please.
3. LEVER-ACTION RIFLES
Yeah I know we’re getting bows as the brand new weapon type in Forsaken, but I’m also hoping for some sort of lever-action rifle, if not as a new class of weapon, than at least a spin on the scout rifle, or some kind of unique exotic the way there are no other beam rifles besides Coldheart and Prometheus Lens, or the way there are no other Gatling guns like Sweet Business. Make it happen!
4. SHOOTING FROM SPARROWS
This has been a long time coming, but I believe that it’s time to let Guardians shoot while riding sparrows. I’m classifying this as a western thing because it would emulate gunfights on horseback or say, horses pursuing a train to rob while cracking off shots. I think it’s time for this mechanic to be implemented, but I’m not going to hold my breath for it.
5. ONE HELL OF A LAST WORD EXOTIC QUEST
I have previously said that I would print a 3D model of The Last Word and eat it if it didn’t show up in this western-themed expansion, given that it’s the most western revolver the game has with its hipfire madness. It’s also the most requested returning exotic in Destiny, I hear even more calls for it than I do Gjallarhorn, and I want to see it return not just as a drop, but with a story-based exotic quest that takes players all over the map completing objectives and unearthing lore in order to get it. Just no “maintain this KDA in crucible” step, no raid-only/Escalation Protocol-only steps, please. Something that’s hard, but that solo players can also achieve.
Those are my five western-influenced requests for Forsaken. I’m not confident I’m going to get any of them, based on what’s been revealed so far, but I guess we’ll have to see.
