Five ways to find cleaning products cheaper on Amazon than Sainsbury’s or Wilko

It's that time of year where everyone starts gutting the house and cracking out the feather duster for a spring clean. But you might want to think twice before heading to the high street to stock up on your cleaning supplies.

Much like how you can find makeup, skincare and cosmetics cheaper on Amazon than in Boots or Superdrug, you can also find your cleaning products and devices for a fraction of the cost online, too.

Ahead of the spring blitz, we've been taking a look at all of the ways you can save money on cleaning products on Amazon, from bulk buys and multibuy deals, to even shopping secondhand.

Here are five handy ways to save money on Amazon when it comes to those everyday 'under the sink' essentials.

Limited time deals

Amazon regularly discounts thousands of products every day in limited time deals that could make them so much cheaper than the high street. Shoppers can find these offers by navigating to the ‘Today’s deals’ tab, then selecting the category they want to search, such as ‘home care and cleaning’.

Some of the offers are as much as up to half price off, and include things like mops, washing up sponges, bin liners and mould removers.

The popular vacuum cleaner brand is offering up to 30% off a range of products for Amazon shoppers (Amazon)

Another deal on the site sees this Shark Upright Vacuum Cleaner - perfect for pet owners - down £100 from £349 to £249. It’s 99p cheaper than it is on the Shark website, but with Amazon you also get the added benefit of next day delivery.

But your everyday essentials can also be reduced in these deals, making them cheaper than Tesco or Sainsburys. For example the Dr. Beckmann Original Magic Leaves Laundry Detergent is £4 for 25 washes in the supermarket, but only £3.50 on Amazon - which with 25 washes a month could save £6 a year.

Bulk buy

If you get through a particular product quite regularly, it could pay off to stock up and save money by bulk buying. Dettol multi-purpose wipes are a good example because they can be used for so many things around the house, so you’ll rattle through a pack of 70 quite quickly. At Sainsbury’s they’re usually £4 a pack but are currently down to £2.50, but if you can afford to stock up in one go, you can get six packs - a total of 420 wipes - for £12.50, saving £11.50 on the RRP, and still saving £2.50 on Sainsbury’s reduced price.

But it is always worth shopping around, because sometimes you’ll simply pay more for the convenience of ordering online. On Amazon, six bottles of the Fabulosa Black Cherry Disinfectant cost £6.99. But at Wilko, the same 220ml bottles are just £1, so you can essentially get an extra bottle at Wilko for the same price. However, you have to take into account your travel and fuel.

Subscribe and save

If you don’t want to buy in bulk in one go, but do use a product regularly, then subscribe and save is the best option for you. Usually £10, the Lenor Unstoppables scent Boosters are currently £8 at Ocado and Wilko, but £7.99 on Amazon if you purchase it just the once.

Those who order these regularly though could save some cash by swapping to a subscribe and save on the product, which will see the 570g tub cost £7.59 each instead. What’s more is that you can keep it rolling for a constant supply, or pause/cancel your subscription at any time if you find yourself with enough product.

Subscribe and save can be used on most products you tend to buy regularly, such as bin liners, disinfectant wipes, scourers and microfibre cloths.

Multibuy deals

If you’re picking up a few items to add to your cleaning cupboard, keep an eye out for a little green ticket under the price, which will often read something like ‘buy four, save 5%’. These can all be the same item, or four different qualifying items, with the 5 per cent discount being added at the checkout.

There are thousands of qualifying items which you can view on this page here, and as you can see, they don’t have to all be in the same category either, with makeup, books, stationery and chocolate all included.

Buy second hand

Some Amazon cleaning products you can actually buy secondhand - yes, really! While this Fairy Platinum All-In-1 Dishwasher Tablets XXL Pack would usually cost £20, it’s down to £13 on Amazon. But, you can save even more by opting for an ‘open box, like new’, which you can buy for £10.89 - nearly half the RRP. The product will come in a ‘like new’ condition with its original packaging, which could be a good way to save a few bob.

This offer is only available on select products, though, but it could save a fortune on things like electricals, like the Karcher Window Vac which usually costs over £40. The tool - perfect for clearing condensation from windows in winter - is £39.99 on the global retailer, but you can pick up a ‘used - good’ version for £32, which is ideal if you don’t mind a few cosmetic issues, since it could come with ‘damages such as cracks, holes or dents, but is still usable’.
