Five Tottenham players with a point to prove as Daniel Levy plans next manager appointment

It's been a rollercoaster season for Tottenham Hotspur. The club currently sit in fifth position in the Premier League and are six points adrift of a top four spot with UEFA Champions League qualification for next season on the line.

Spurs are without a win in their last three fixtures which included a dismal display in the 6-1 defeat against Newcastle at St. James' Park. That result cost Cristian Stellini his job as interim manager until the end of the season after the Italian took over following Daniel Levy's decision to sack Antonio Conte.

Ryan Mason now finds himself in charge as Tottenham came back from 2-0 down to take a point from their clash against Manchester United in his first game as caretaker boss. Levy is continuing to search for a permanent replacement after sacking Conte in March, but a number of players will be looking to use the final few games of the season to prove they deserve to stay at the club and retain their place in the team.

With that being said, football.london takes a look at five players who have a point to prove ahead of next season with a new manager set to take charge for the 2023/24 campaign.

Richarlison

The Brazilian striker completed a £60million move to N17 from Everton last summer but has endured a difficult debut season for Spurs. Richarlison was one of the standout performers for Brazil at the World Cup in Qatar but after suffering an injury before returning to club duties, he has failed to show any signs of replicating the form he showed under Tite in the middle-east.

The 25-year-old was signed with the expectation that he would help support Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in attack after scoring 53 goals in 152 appearances for the Toffees. Richarlison is yet to score in the Premier League this season and has only provided four assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.

The Spurs forward has failed to show why the club spent £60million on him last summer and must improve drastically in front of goal if he is to be a consistent starter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. There would be no better way to grab his first goal for the Lilywhites than in a huge game against Liverpool at Anfield this weekend.

Son Heung-min

The South Korean forward has failed replicate his goalscoring form last term this season, netting 13 goals in all competitions and providing a further four assists. It looks unlikely that Son will end the season with double figures in both goals and assists after his stellar 2021/22 season which saw him notch 24 goals and provide 10 assists.

The 30-year-old's drop off in form has left Harry Kane with the pressure of making the difference in attack for Spurs and Son will need to rediscover his form from last season heading into the 2023/24 campaign if Tottenham are going to challenge for trophies and secure Champions League football consistently.

Hugo Lloris

The Frenchman has not been at his best this season. Injuries and errors have seen his form drop considerably and his position as starting goalkeeper may be under consideration ahead of the summer transfer window.

Brentford's David Raya and Brighton's Robert Sanchez have both been linked with switches to Spurs as questions continue to be raised about Lloris' form for Tottenham. The 36-year-old has conceded 45 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions this season and Spurs may be wise to bring in a goalkeeper to rival Lloris for a starting spot unless his performances improve.

Yves Bissouma

Another summer signing that has struggled to break into the team and nail down a starting spot. Bissouma arrived at Spurs as competition for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur but has done little to prove he deserves to be starting games consistently.

Bissouma has been sidelined for a large period of the season as he recovers from a fractured ankle. Next season the Mali international will be hoping he can prove his worth to the club under a new manager as he aims to replicate his form for Brighton last term in a Spurs shirt.

Eric Dier

Eric Dier's weaknesses were exposed by Manchester United in the 2-2 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The English defender has shown in the past that he can be brilliant in a five-back, but a new manager may look to change systems.

Dier needs to raise his performance level and prove that he deserves to be starting every game for the Lilywhites, otherwise he risks falling down the pecking order if new signings are brought in to bolster the defence. The 29-year-old has made 40 appearances this term across all competitions - highlighting his importance to the team - but he needs to start taking responsibility as a leader in defence to avoid Spurs from shipping goals every week.

Tottenham have not kept a clean sheet in their last seven games across all competitions and Dier's performances have come under scrutiny as a result.
