A swan brought traffic to a near standstill earlier today, blocking off a lane on the M8 motorway at the Kingston Bridge.
This isn't the first time that an animal has caused chaos on a Scottish road. In fact, there are a handful of instances involving birds, cows and boars taking to the streets and blocking the way for motorists - sometimes during the already busy rush hour.
Here are just a few recent examples of animals parading along Scots roads.
Runaway cows on the M73 - September 2022
Last month two escaped cows sparked an emergency closure of a major Scots motorway.
Police were called to the scene on the southbound carriageway of the M73 near the Gartcosh Interchange at J2A, where the runaway cows were spotted along the hard shoulder.
This isn't the first time that a cow has taken to a hard shoulder either. In 2020 a bovine beast was spotted by stunned drivers walking alongside the M8 at Harthill with police having to halt traffic until it was returned to its field.
Family of swans in Wishaw - July 2022
A family of swans brought traffic to a halt on North Dryburgh Road and Coltness Road in Wishaw during the summer.
The two swans joined by five cygnets wandered around the residential area, leaving drivers patiently waiting for them to be moved.
Locals eventually contacted the police who in turn contacted the Scottish SPCA. A SSPCA officer eventually managed to coax the swans back to their natural habitat
Peacocks in Dunfermline October 2021
Last year Fife Jammers shared images of peacocks parading through Dunfermline.
The birds caused some disturbance on the road with one peacock almost ‘squished’ on Bridge Street - causing tailbacks.
Locals were taken aback by the birds with one joking: “I wouldn't mind being stuck in traffic if I got to just stare at them.”
Giant pigs on the A77 - February 2021
Another incident last year saw giant pigs halting traffic on one of Ayrshire's busiest routes - the A77 bypass.
One eyewitness described how traffic was "brought to a standstill" as the animals roamed freely around the road.
Police confirmed the three pigs had been reported on the loose at the Whitletts roundabout shortly before 11am and were taken back to a nearby farm by a farmer.
