Five-time 'World's Strongest Man' left face down after being knocked out

Five-time world's strongest man winner Mariusz Pudzianowski was knocked out in his latest MMA fight by former boxer Artur Szpilka.

Pudzianowski, 46, is widely considered as the greatest strongman of all-time and he transitioned to MMA in 2009 after the conclusion of his strength career. Things didn't go Pudzianowski's way in his fight against Szpilka at KSW 83 on Saturday night as he was knocked out in the second round.

The former strongman exploited Szpilka's lack of grappling ability in the first round by taking the former boxer down and smothering him for the entirety of the opening stanza. Szpilka was able to defend Pudzianowski's takedown at the start of the second round, which led to the 46-year-old recklessly charging towards his opponent.

Szpilka then caught Pudzianowski with a left hook during the wild exchange and the former strongman was sent down to the canvas. Szpilka followed up with some ground-and-pound punches which forced referee Marc Goddard to stop the fight, awarding the Polish fighter his third consecutive win since crossing over to MMA last June.

An audience of more than 45,000 people attended the KSW event to watch Szpilka knockout Pudzianowski. In the main event, former middleweight champion Mamed Khalidov brutally knocked out Scott Askham with a flying switch-kick as the British fighter attempted to get back to his feet.

Pudzianowski is now on a two-fight losing skid after his loss to Szpilka, who fought the likes of Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora during his boxing career. Pudzianowski has previously admitted that he doesn't stick to any type of diet whilst preparing for his MMA fights as the five-time world's strongest man winner indulges in chocolate and ice cream.

"I don't have any particular kind of diet," Pudzianowski said during an appearance on The MMA Hour. "I just eat everything. I can eat 30 bars of chocolate and two cartons of milk. I can eat five pounds of ice cream in bed. I eat whenever I want, whatever I want and I always have these incredible muscles on my body.

"I have never had any kind of diet. You have to train a lot too but I eat mostly Polish cuisine but you have to train every day systematically for many years to look like this. Six days a week slowly step-by-step. In the morning a one hour warm-up. After jog do one and a half-hours of systematic training."
