Five things Man City fans can do to cope with 11-day season showdown

When Manchester City return from the international break, there will be no time to gradually get back up to speed and build rhythm — the fixture Gods have chucked Pep Guardiola's team right in at the deep end.

Between April 5th and 16th City will face Atletico Madrid twice in the Champions League quarter-finals and Liverpool twice, once in a potential league title-deciding game at the Etihad Stadium and once in the FA Cup semi-final.

City will likely do well in at least some of those matches, but regardless, the 11-day period is going to be hell for supporters. Us Blues are a pessimistic lot, so the prospect of huge games against a team as good as Liverpool and a notoriously tough European heavyweight in such a short space of time is rather daunting.

It could be a rather stressful time, so here's a guide on how to get through the week-and-a-half in one piece:

Muted words

The best course of action would be to delete Twitter for a couple of weeks in case of worst case scenario, but we realise it's not easy to just give it up like that. Instead, 'muting' a few words and phrases, so that they don't appear on your timeline during an already stressful period, could help.

The following should be muted: Liverpool, Klopp, quadruple, Fraudiola, Anfield, treble.

Talking on the pitch, not Twitter

Staying on the subject of social media: can we stop arguing with other City fans and critics of the club for just a few weeks?

Debate about various issues relating to City, such as finances and human rights issues in the United Arab Emirates, are healthy and important, and should of course take place. Point-scoring, tribal jibes and defending the club to the ends of the earth no matter the accusation, are not.

That goes for arguing over footballing matters with other Blues. Let's just try and enjoy (as best we can) what could turn out to be matches we remember for the rest of our lives.

Don't panic

City have a maximum of 16 games left this season, so it's unlikely that they are going to win all of them. The same can be said for Liverpool — no matter how good their form is at the moment.

When City do slip up, try not to panic too much. This is elite-level football after all, where the finest of margins can prove the difference between winning and losing. It wouldn't be sport if City won every single game.

Take a break

There will barely be time to catch our breathe between the games against Atletico and Liverpool, but it's important to try and switch off from football at times if you can. After all, it's just a game of 22 players kicking a ball around a patch of grass.

That said, if you've made and social arrangements with non-City supporting friends over the next few weeks then maybe cancel them. Just in case things don't go well.

Media darlings

Yes, it is infuriating to see Liverpool lap up the praise, rarely afforded to City, when they win, but getting worked up about it isn't going to change anything. Jurgen Klopp and his players are the media darlings and Guardiola and his are robots, end of.

Best to just sit back and enjoy Guardiola's brilliant Blues battle to win a treble — who knows for how much longer we'll be able to do that.
