Five teenagers have been killed after their car crashed into a lake, just moments after four of the victims left their shift at a local steakhouse.
The teens, all aged 18 to 19, died in Fort Myers, Florida, when their car sank in a retention pond.
Police said they found a total of two women and three men inside of the car.
A post from Texas Roadhouse chain restaurant, where four of the teens worked, identified them as Amanda Ferguson, Eric Cox, Breanna Coleman, and Jackson Eyre.
The fifth victim was identified as Jesus Salinas, Breanna's boyfriend, told NBC 2.
According to the Fort Myers Police Department, a single car crashed into a retention pond off Top Golf Way, near Colonial Boulevard, sometime between 10pm Sunday and early Monday morning.
FMPD detective Kyle Martin said: “We removed the vehicle from the lake.
"The investigation is in its very infancy.
"We’re still completing an investigation, so there’s not a whole lot of details we can provide as far as the mechanisms or what happened at the moment, so that’s still ongoing.”
All five inside the car were pronounced dead.
Parents of the victims started calling 911 at around 4am about their children having not returned from work at the Texas Roadhouse, located just about a half mile from the scene of the crash.
Flags flew at half-staff on Monday at the restaurant where the teens worked.
The restaurant was closed for the day out of respect for the families of the victims.
A friend and co-worker Ibrahim Shaw, said: "“They loved everyone around them.
"They love their friends family, and I know now they’re looking down on us hoping that we do better for them and keep on pushing forward in life.”
The South Fort Myers baseball team offered their condolences to one of the victims, Jackson Eyre, a former player.
“Jackson embraced so many people and now we need to embrace his memory,” the team wrote on its Instagram page.
“Anytime someone passes, we lose a little bit of who we are. It hurts even more when it’s one of our own. We ask everyone in the community to pray for his family & friends, as we get through this impossibly difficult time together.”
Jackson was set to attend Fort Myers Technical College in the fall.
He hoped to become a professional welder.
Amanda Ferguson was attending school to become a teacher, her aunt wrote on Facebook.
"It breaks my heart, my niece was one of the teens in the car,' Michael Noland wrote.
"We are crushed as a family, people always say you have to be strong, well I’m trying, I cannot right now.'
Homicide investigators are appealing to the public for information.
They want to hear from anyone who knows what the group were doing just before the crash.
