The Game Awards 2022 may be about gaming gongs, and free Steam Decks, but it’s the video game announcements that get gamers’ pulses racing.

And it wasn’t all about the games, as a bizarre invader took to the stage at the event held at the Microsoft Theater, in LA.

This year’s ceremony brought with it the usual raft of trailers, release dates, and first looks at some of the most highly anticipated titles heading to consoles, PC, and mobiles. From the latest instalment of Square Enix’s popular Final Fantasy RPG series to the sequel to Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, here are the biggest reveals of the night.

Armored Core VI is on the way from the maker of Elden Ring

FromSoftware, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Elden Ring, is returning to its roots with Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. Almost a decade on since the last entry in the robot mech series, a trailer for its follow-up was revealed. While there’s no gameplay on show, it does feature robots pulverising each other in a flame-engulfed future apocalypse. The game is out next year on PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam.

Idris Elba to star in first Cyberpunk 2077 expansion

British actor Idris Elba is adding video-game star to his list of talents by headlining CD Projekt Red’s first Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, Phantom Liberty. The DLC arrives next year. Hopefully, we’ll see Elba share some screen time with his Cyberpunk co-star, Keanu Reeves.

Final Fantasy XVI’s trailer and release date

Square Enix showed off a new Final Fantasy XVI trailer at The Game Awards. It’s chock-full of the type of giant monsters and epic action fans have come to expect from the long-running franchise. Best of all, the game now has a release date: it lands on PS5 on June 22, 202.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor gets a new trailer with release date

EA revealed a new Star Wars Jedi: Survivor trailer, with a decent helping of gameplay footage. The sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order features more of the same first-person adventure antics, but fans won’t be complaining. The first game successfully mixed elements of Uncharted and Tomb Raider to create a thrilling jaunt through the Star Wars universe. Best of all, we now have a release date. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor arrives March 17, 2023.

Vampire Survivors on iOS and Android for free

In the lowkey biggest surprise of the night, sleeper indie hit Vampire Survivors made its debut on iOS and Android. Even better, the game is free. Now, you have no excuse not to partake in the vampire-slaying action. Vampire Survivors made it on to our list of best games of 2022 thanks to its retro style and satisfying gameplay, which sees you vanquishing bloodsuckers with an arsenal of weapons that would make Van Helsing jealous.
