The Ohio State football team has been making a big splash in the recruiting world in the past few weeks. The Buckeyes have shot up the team rankings with recent verbal commitments and OSU fans have reason to be excited.
However, of the current eight commits, only one is on the defensive side of the ball. If Ohio State truly wants to contend for Big Ten and national titles each year, the Bucks must be equally diligent on the defensive side of things as they have been offensive.
The No. 3 cornerback in the nation just dropped his top 11 schools and Ohio State is firmly in the mix. Kobe Black is a five-star cornerback out of Waco, Texas, and is the No. 16 rated player, according to 247Sports composite rankings.
When asked about the Buckeyes, Black seemed to be impressed by the program. “They play and practice at a high level and great competition to make me better every day,” Black said.
The Buckeyes are competing with some of the nation’s best to land Black. Other teams on his list are Alabama, Florida, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, and USC.

Ohio State also has its eyes on a couple of other highly coveted in-state recruits at the cornerback position, both four-star defensive backs. Bryce West out of Cleveland Glenville and Aaron Scott out of Springfield, Ohio. Both are rated as top-10 corners in the class and both currently have crystal ball picks in favor of the Buckeyes.
If Ryan Day and Jim Knowles can grab all three in this class, it would be quite a haul that OSU hasn’t seen in some time at the cornerback position.
