Five Sisters Zoo welcomes birth of one of the world's smallest cats

Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder welcomed a very special new member after the birth of one of the smallest cats in the world.

A rusty-spotted cat was born four weeks ago and it’s believed to be the first ever born in Scotland.

New born kittens weight between 60 and 77 grams with the breed being listed as near threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

The population of the rusty-spotted cat, which is native to India and Sri Lanka, is estimated to be below 10,000.

The zoo took to social media to announce the new and said they were delighted to welcome the new addition to the family, who was born to first time mum Nainika.

The zoo said: “Rusty-spotted cat kitten born!
