FIVE Scottish fish and chip shops have been honoured as the best in the country in prestigious food and drink awards.
The annual Good Food Awards have seen blue ribbons awarded to fish and chip joints across Scotland for serving top quality food, positive customer reviews, and keeping high hygiene standards.
Votes and nominations are also taken to allow the Good Food Award judges to decide which eateries will be honoured each year.
Their winners for 2023/2024 have now been announced, with five fish and chip shops in Scotland earning a blue ribbon.
These are:
- Tailend, Dundee
- Tralee Bay Fish and Chips, Benderloch
- The Oban Fish and Chip Shop, Oban
- Scallop's Tale, Bearsden
- The Alyth Traditional Fish Bar, Blairgowrie
The “Good Chippy Award” winners were “chosen for their food quality, service and value”, the awards’ website states.
A separate award category is open to takeaways where fish and chips is not their primary source of business.
Three Scottish takeaways also won blue ribbons in this category for 2023/2024. These are:
- Chicken Union, Stirling
- Wee Mexico, Dundee
- Burger Island, Burntisland
Other categories see cafes, restaurants, gastro pubs, and hotels specifically honoured.
Explaining how their blue ribbons are handed out, the Good Food Awards website states: “Committed to independence and integrity, our awards have captivated our readers and fans by recognising those who relentlessly pursue culinary excellence.
“Our Good Food Awards are free to enter and solely based on merit, ensuring we recognise only the most deserving nominees.
“The United Kingdom has approximately 596,213 dining establishments, making the competition for our Good Food Awards incredibly tough. We were delighted by the unprecedented number of entries and votes from our readers, customers, and fans, and it was truly heart-warming to witness the overwhelming support our winners received.
“Our Good Food Awards, also known as the Blue Ribbon for Delicious Dishes, are awarded to those who excel in food quality, service, and value. We use customer feedback/votes and online reviews to ensure that our awards are based on merit and reflect the opinions of actual diners. Many awardees have become regular recipients by maintaining the same high standards that earned them their first recognition.”
