Five reported dead after TV tower struck in Kyiv - all the latest Ukraine and Russia headlines

Russian forces are continuing their advance through Ukraine on day six of the invasion.

Five people have died after a Russian attack near a TV tower in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, according to Ukrainian emergency services.

It comes as Russia warned citizens of Kyiv to leave, as it prepared to target the capital.

This morning, at least 10 people were reportedly killed and another 20 injured after a Russian missile hit a government building in the city of Kharkiv.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelinsky confirmed that there were no military targets in the area, and accused Russia of committing war crimes.

Meanwhile, the UK's Ministry of Defence reported that Ukrainian forces continue to hold the cities of Kharkiv, Kherson and Mariupol however all three cities are now likely encircled by Russian forces.

Five reported dead after TV tower struck in Kyiv

Five people are reportedly dead after air strikes hit a TV tower in Kyiv.

Ukrainian officials said that the Russian forces fired at the Kyiv TV tower and Ukraine’s main Holocaust memorial, among other civilian sites in the capital.

Ukraine’s State Service for Emergency Situations said the strikes on the TV tower killed five people and left five more wounded.

The Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, posted a photo of clouds of smoke around the TV tower, and Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko shared a video of it being hit.

Belarus joins Russia and 'invades Ukraine' - reports

Belarus has joined Russia in its attack on Ukraine has become the second country to invade them, the Ukrainian government claims.

A tweet from the official Twitter account of the Ukrainian parliament claimed that troops "have entered" the region of Chernihiv in northern Ukraine.

The claims have been supported by Latvian Defence Minister Dr Atis Pabriks, who also said Belarusian troops had crossed the border into Ukraine, the Mirror reports.

He told the Commons Foreign Affairs Committee: "This basically means we have two aggressive [nations] at this moment officially.

"I am very much concerned that Russian troops, following orders from the top, will go into the mode similar to that President Assad was using against his population."

Russian missile hits Ukrainian government building in Kharkiv

Dramatic CCTV footage reveals the moment a "barbaric" Russian missile smashes into a government building in Ukraine's second-largest city.

At around 8am local time a missile hit a city council building in Kharkiv which was quickly followed by a loud explosion.

The force of the blast was so strong that it caused serious damage to cars in the area and shattered windows of nearby buildings in Independence Square, the Mirror reports.

Emergency officials in Kharkiv have claimed at least 20 people were injured within the state administration office.

It is not yet clear if there have been any deaths as a result of the blast, but Regional administration chief Oleh Sinehubov reported that at least 11 people were killed.

Footage taken nearby shows the devastating impact of the air strike as residents record what little remains of their apartments.

Boris Johnson launches scathing attack on Putin's 'barbaric' tactics in Ukraine

Boris Johnson has launched a scathing attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin as the conflict continues in Ukraine.

Speaking in Warsaw, the Prime Minister said Mr Putin was using "barbaric and indiscriminate tactics against innocent civilians".

He added that the Russian president has "fatally underestimated" the resistance of the Ukrainian people and the resolve of the West to act while paying tribute to the "leadership and courage" of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.

"Vladimir Putin is prepared to use barbaric and indiscriminate tactics against innocent civilians, to bomb tower blocks, to send missiles into tower blocks to kill children," Mr Johnson said.

Actor Sean Penn 'walks to Polish border' after he's caught in Ukraine invasion

Actor Sean Penn has told fans that he 'walked miles' to the Polish border after being caught up in the Ukraine invasion.

Penn revealed his situation in a tweet posted on Monday evening (February 28).

He shared the message alongside a picture of him wheeling his case down a car-lined road.

"Myself & two colleagues walked miles to the Polish border after abandoning our car on the side of the road," Penn wrote, clearly showing the queues of traffic," he said.

"Almost all the cars in this photo carry women & children only, most without any sign of luggage, and a car their only possession of value."

Manchester's Factory Records co-founder flying out to Ukraine to help 'fight bullies'

Co-founder of Factory Records and renowned humanitarian Alan Erasmus has told friends 'I'm not having this' before vowing to fly out to war-torn Ukraine.

It is believed Mr Erasmus, 72, from Manchester, will fly to Krakow in Poland before travelling over land across the border to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine which is under siege from Russia President Vladimir Putin's forces.

It's not the first time he has run towards danger.

Friends have described how he also went to Liberia when the west African country was stricken by a deadly outbreak of the ebola virus.

Man City star Oleksandr Zinchenko joins Ukrainian players to send plea amid Russian conflict

Manchester City star Oleksandr Zinchenko has issued a heartfelt plea for help from the football community as Russia's invasion of his homeland Ukraine continues.

Zinchenko, 25, shared an appeal alongside several other Ukrainian footballers including West Ham's Andriy Yarmolenko.

It comes days after the Man City defender and Ukrainian national team captain embraced Everton player and fellow countryman Vitaliy Mykolenko ahead of the 1-0 victory over the Toffees at the weekend.

The Ukrainian internationals spoke briefly with Zinchenko, who was present at a vigil outside Manchester's Central Library on Thursday evening, visibly upset.
