Five people in the UK die from new Arcturus Covid strain as Scottish cases detected

Five people in the UK have died after being hit with the new Arcturus Covid strain, as it continues to spread rapidly.

The newest coronavirus variant is already spreading across the UK, reports the Mirror.

It is present across all regions in the UK, aside from the North East in England.

According to a new technical briefing from the UK Health and Security Agency (UKHSA), there are at least 135 confirmed cases of Acrturus in the UK.

Most cases were in England, with eight in Wales, five in Scotland and two in Northern Ireland as well.

Earlier in April, the Omicron XBB.1.16 strain was present in at least 28 countries, with over 2,000 in India.

Alongside this, the United States was reported to have 357 cases as of April 14, as Singapore and Australia both had over 100 cases too.

At the moment, however, health chiefs have noted that there is no evidence to suggest that this new strain is more severe than past variants.
