Crowds flock to beer gardens as soon as the sun comes out and this weekend is set to be scorchio. With temperatures predicted to reach highs of 29C making it hotter than Ibiza, there's no nicer spot for a chilled pint of lager or a refreshing Aperol Spritz than by the water.
And as luck would have it landlocked Nottinghamshire boasts some mighty fine canalside and riverside drinking - and eating - locations, from traditional country pubs to buzzing city centre bars.

Swan & Salmon
With three storeys of waterfront terraces, this Newark pub is arguably one of the best outdoor spaces in the county. The riverside pub boasts a row of picnic benches with parasols at the water's edge, overlooking the castle ruins, as well as a riverside balcony.
If it's just a drink you're after there's a good variety of beers on tap, rotating ales, bottled beers, wines, gins and a cocktail menu. But it would be a shame not to sample the top quality pub food as well. Classics include fish and chips, steak and ale pie, and a butternut squash tagine. Burgers and steak are on offer and there's a tasty range of pasta dishes including the chef's ravioli of the week.
One reviewer said: "On a sunny day with views over the river, no better place to eat in Newark" while others recommended the carbonara, arancini and the fish and chips.

Cured
One of Nottingham city centre's popular waterside haunts is Cured. Close to the railway station and bus stops it's easy to reach if you fancy a few tipples, served by friendly staff.
Located right next to Nottingham canal, it's a lovely laid-back spot for chilling on a sunny day - at any time, starting with breakfast cobs and coffee moving onto bagels for lunch and charcuterie and wine.
As well as the outside tables along the canal's edge, the former warehouse's lower level's shutters open out overlooking the water and there's tables on the bridge, so there's plenty of seats to go round.

The Bromley at Fiskerton
A must-visit pub in the summer, set beside the River Trent. The winter days with that cosy log fire burning have been put behind us and all we want to do now is sit outside in the sunshine.
There's a row of wooden picnic benches by the water's edge and a terrace with bistro furniture and patio heaters, for taking the chill off when the suns starts to fade.
Well known as a dining destination, the pub offers a selection of menus, including lunch, à la carte and gluten-free. "It's such a lovely pub, especially when the sun is out. You get the beauty of eating or drinking next to the river and seeing all the boats go past," said one visitor.

Canalhouse
Canal boat enthusiasts have definitely come to the right spot here. You can watch the boats go by and there's even two narrow boats inside the pub.
Come summer hordes of people pack into the beer garden at the back of the Grade II listed former canal museum with the unique feature of the canal inside the pub. "Going over the canal and two boats to get to the bar made it feel a bit like a game of Tomb Raider," said one punter.
The Castle Rock pub boasts a wide selection of craft beers, real ales and ciders. If you're feeling hungry get stuck into a menu of classic pub grub, from juicy steaks to healthy salads and burgers to rustic sandwiches.

Waterside Bar + Kitchen
Head to Trent Bridge and you're spoilt for choice. On one side is Brewhouse & Kitchen, and on the other side of the road is Waterside Bar + Kitchen, located in front of the home of Nottingham Forest.
As well as drinks and food, the one thing both West Bridgford bars have in common is a scenic backdrop of the River Trent. Waterside's fans say it's a beautiful place on a hot day and a real suntrap.
The day kicks off with brunch favourites of a Full English, Eggs Benedict, pancakes and breakfast sandwiches, with a main menu following with grazers, dirty burgers, pizzas and pub classics such as fish and chips, bangers and mash and chicken Caesar salad.
