Five men arrested after brawl outside chipper following night out as gardai carry out searches

Five young men have been arrested in connection with a public order incident that recently occurred after a night out.

Gardai are investigating a number of public order and assault incidents that happened in the Dalton Street area of Claremorris, Co Mayo, in the early hours of Sunday, February 6.

The incident involved several people and occurred outside a takeaway between 2.40am and 3am.

A number of searches were carried out in relation to the incident by gardai at homes in Claremorris and Ballinrobe on Tuesday morning.

Four men, aged in their teens and 20s, as well as another juvenile under the age of 18, were arrested.

They are all currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a number of garda stations in the Mayo region.

Claremorris gardai are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí have today arrested five people in relation to a public order incident which occurred in the Dalton Street area of Claremorris, County Mayo, in the early hours of Sunday, 6th February, 2022.

"Claremorris Community Engagement Gardaí supported by Detectives from Mayo Crime and Western Region Armed Support Unit conducted searches under warrant at a number of addresses in Claremorris and Ballinrobe this morning, Tuesday 15th March 2022.

"Four adult males (aged 20s, teens) and one juvenile male teen were arrested and are all currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a number of Garda Stations in the Mayo Region.

"Claremorris Gardaí continue their appeal for any witnesses to this incident in the Dalton Street area between 2:40am and 3:00am, to come forward.

"Anyone with any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact Claremorris Garda Station on 094 937 2080, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."
