At least five people including a baby and a pregnant woman have been killed in a fireball car crash that police said "almost looks like a war zone".
Shocking footage of the crash in Los Angeles, in the US, showed a speeding driver flying through an intersection at high speed and hitting a number of cars, three of which became engulfed in flames.
More horrific reports claim the infant killed in the crash flew out of the wreckage caused by the impact and landed at a witness' feet.
The woman told KTLA: "All of a sudden, a baby literally flew from the middle of the intersection to the middle of the gas station and landed right on the floor in front of me.
"One of the workers came and saw me with the baby and took the baby out of my hands."
Crash survivor Debra Jackson spoke of the flames "going over" her body as she tried to escape the awful situation.
Debra told KCAL: "All of a sudden, I heard a big explosion, but as I was trying to turn around, the flames just went over everybody.
"The flames went over my whole car and they told me to jump out of my car because I was trying to get out of my car, to go to the gas pump.
"And I jumped out of my car and just left my car sitting right there."
California Highway Patrol spokesman Franco Pepi said at the time of the crash there were "at least six to seven vehicles involved" and "three became engulfed in flames".
He added that the aftermath of the crash “almost looks like a war zone” with crushed and burned-out vehicles scattered throughout the street.
The crash occurred at the intersection of La Brea and Slauson Avenues in Los Angeles on August 4 when a Mercedes-Benz driver flew into the passing cars at around 1.40pm local time.
Seven more people are reported to have been left with significant injuries, with a total of nine people injured.
Witness Harper Washington told ABC 7: "It looked like the whole intersection from corner to corner was on fire. A lot of sparks and electricity.
"I was under the impression that, really at first I thought they dropped a bomb on us. I thought another world war had started. Then I realised it was a car into the sign.
The horror crash occurred mere yards away from a petrol station with extremely flammable fuel pumps.
Harper added: "Once the fire went away and the booming left, I realised it was two cars there. They said: 'You could see the people on fire and that's just sad. I really pray for the people and the community."
