Five dogs vet wouldn't get - one is aggressive, another would bite your face off

A vet has listed five dog breeds she would never have as a pet including one she says is aggressive and another that 'wants to bite your face off'. Dr Whitney Terrell has also listed breeds which she says have significant health problems that make them unsuitable for keeping as pets.

Dr Terrell instead recommends her favorite breeds - including Golden Retrievers and Basset Hounds. She shared a clip on TikTok listing the breeds she would personally avoid and quickly;y attracted more than 8million views.

She said one of the best dogs you can get is a mixed breed as they have fewer underlying health problems.

Dr Terrell's least favourite breeds include Goldendoodles and poodle mixes, German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois, short-snouted dogs like French bulldogs, pugs, Boston terriers and shih tzus, Chihuahuas and Chinese cresteds.

On the poddle crosses, Dr Terrell said: "A lot of them are crazy, crazy hyper, can't sit still for two seconds. We've had some really aggressive ones as well." She said they also have health problems, especially with ear infections, and are expensive to groom.

On German and Belgian shepherds she said: "They have the potential to be really great dogs, good police dogs, good rescue types scenarios but 95 per cent of the ones that we see in clinic want to bite your face off because they're not properly trained.

'I know I would not be able to properly train them because I have no time. If you're thinking about getting one of these dogs, don't do it lightly because they need lots of training, lots of attention."

Earlier this year Jacob Morgan, founder and trainer of the YorkshireCanineAcademy.co.uk, said people should avoid Malinios dogs. He said: “I can confidently say the Belgian Malinois is not a family pet and especially if you have a full time job, you don’t have time for this breed.

“It takes thousands of hours of training to make a Belgian Malinois a ‘regular dog’. So many are being bred to have a ‘nervy edge’, which is being mistaken for a willingness to protect.”

Jacob said: “This breed has strong herding and guarding instincts, and genetics make it need to chase and bite things. If an owner is not providing an outlet like the training shown in our video, the dogs can become anxious and lash out at their owners.”

“It’s a perfect storm happening right now and I’m sure it won’t be long until the breed is banned altogether. Through no fault of their own, it will be the fault of the thoughtless breeders and those owners who haven’t done their research properly.”

On pugs and bulldogs Dr Terrell said: "Some of them are so cute and so sweet but they can't breathe, literally cannot breathe.

'They snore, I've already got a husband that snores, I don't need anything else. Skin fold dermatitis, allergies, yeasty, smelly, gassy, it's a no from me."

On chihuahuas she said: "Not my cup of tea: afraid I'm going to step on them, will more than likely be bit if I had one, they're usually a one person dog.

'We've got a few that are super sweet, the rest of them are ankle biters."

Amd on cresteds she said: "'he dogs are fine, I don't like hairless animals. They're zitty, they're kind of greasy, same with cats. It's a no from me."
